Ko Kelvin Retimana Tapuke taku ingoa. He maramara au nō ngā waka o Tainui, Mataatua, Horouta, Tokomaru.
I started a voluntary homework centre at the family farm as a means of helping secondary students from my tribe who were attending the local high school. As a result of that initiative Ngai Tai Kaumatua Fred Mihaere and Te Arurangi Davis encouraged me to follow a teaching career. With the support of my whānau and iwi I have since that time been fortunate to have worked in many communities and their families as a Teacher, Principal, Leadership and Management advisor, Nga Toi advisor, Poutama Tau advisor, Numeracy advisor, Math and Science advisor, Second Language Acquisition advisor across New Zealand, South Pacific and the Middle East. The common thread has been helping their children and helping students to engage successfully in education, and helping teachers, leadership and management to prepare fertile conditions for success.
“Ehara tana toa i te toa takitahi, engari ko tana toa takitini e!”
I have been fortunate to have learned alongside some wonderful educators such as Fiona McGrath, Team Solutions Facilitator, University of Auckland; Karaitiana Teka, Te Wharekura o Huiarau, Ruatahuna; Colleen Douglas and Garry Good, Centre for Educational Development, Massey University.
I am constantly learning and am looking forward to learning alongside and adding to the success of Māori students as Māori” in your schools.
